Onward and Upward

Happy Birthday to my sister!

"Well, that's about it"

I must be hearing the ticking of the biological clock more consciously this week because I'm apparently drawn to the doings of children.... Anyway, Anthony Tommasini recently wrote about his top ten favorite classical composers for the New York Times. It's extensively well researched and it really shows how passionate (and nerdy) the classical music world can be. This article is a reader's response to his list written by an obviously musically oriented 8-year-old:

How cute! I also love how his favorite piece is the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. I must admit to a list of my own of my favorite classical music works. That one's definitely on my list too.

"Litany" by Billy Collins

So impressive and dare I say, ironic? A 3 year old reciting a satiric poem about over-the-top love metaphors found in classical poetry.... But really, he doesn't sound at all comedic. Isn't he just so earnest? Though the humor is all but lost when he sounds so sincere and innocent - as I'd imagine good 3 year olds and good love metaphors are wont to be - don't you almost wish this was just a simple love poem? Happy Valentine's Day.

Facebook Before Time

Have you all seen these facebook post parodies by now? They are pretty clever and have been cracking me up ever since my sister first shared them with me a few months ago. Perhaps this is all old news to you, my hip and Internet-savvy friends, but just in case you haven't, this one here is my favorite. Here's another link if you can't see the first one: if Facebook existed years ago.

A Birthday Present

Dear Blog,

I know it appears as though I have neglected the one year anniversary of your creation. I do apologize, but I must explain that I actually did celebrate your birthday with a new phone. And not just any phone. I got the iPhone 4. I am currently more than just a little obsessed; I have been sacrificing hours of precious sleep for this new little thing and all of its features and applications. If you had one, I know you'd understand. Forgive me for my new obsession and please know that I'd never purposely ignore you. I'll be around more and more once the novelty of iPhone wears off. I promise.

For now, because you know how I love them, I'll leave you with this Superbowl commercial that probably everyone has seen and shared by now. It encapsulates so much the spirit of what everyone hopes the Motor City can be. Also, how sexy is Eminem? Seriously, if you do not agree, I'd argue that you do not have a pulse.
