Flats Envy

I'm so conflicted about expensive flats. With my inexpensive ones, I'll wear them every day and they'll either be ruined by the wear-and-tear or by the smell from wearing them without socks. But this Ferragamo ad campaign is so convincing! Doesn't it just make you want to drop the almost five hundred dollars for a pair?

Maybe I should just "start smaller" with classic Tory Burch ones that everyone has. One day...

Hollaaaa!

Look what I found on Cup of Jo!

Do you recognize the fifth ring??? It's the one I have! This is a huge style moment for me! Also, good thing I wear the ring on my middle finger now. Wouldn't want to confuse the masses.... Har. Har.

PS. I also love the first and sixth rings as everyday rings. Not really on the look-out for any wedding bands yet...

Elle Fanning in Marie Claire

Since when was being 13 so elegant? I saw these pictures of Elle Fanning in Marie Claire and aren't they just the right mix of girly and gawky? When I was 13, I was certainly a little more than just a bit awkward with my huge round glasses, bleached khaki pants, and Mickey Mouse sweatshirts. She, however, is simply charming.

Yellow Wedding Details

In (early) celebration of the Royal Wedding, here are some photos of a really sweet wedding I came across.

I am so charmed by the happy yellow details. Juxtaposed against the blue sky, doesn't everything look so vibrant and joyful? And, oh goodness, that dress! I think I'm also secretly in love with the fact that the bride and groom are Broadway performers.

Happy Royal Wedding Eve!

The "Have Courage" Bag

For those who do not know, my love affair with Kate Spade began in high school. It was during a school trip to New York City that I made it my singular mission to find a knock-off of the classic Sam bag. I still have my black boxy bag with the gingham red lining and even with its fraying corners and peeling sticker, I still love it and use it (around forgiving company), if for no other reason than its acquired sentimentality.

Since that bag, I've been gifted a real Kate Spade (and much beloved) wallet from some very generous friends which I use everyday. And now that I'm finally a working woman, I've invested in my own purchase (on super sale, of course) and I'm in love with its balance of iconic New York City style and utilitarian functionalities: the gold hardware, the understated feminine bow, the deceptively many and spacious compartments. My favorite detail, however, was a complete surprise. On the zipper is this message:

Golden Globes Top 5

So many to choose from. Here are my top 5 dresses (and their actresses) from last night: classic, understated (okay, maybe not January's), and feminine. Runner-ups: Mandy Moore, Piper Perabo, and Mila Kunis. In other news, I almost died after the 25 crunches I did while I was watching the actual award show...

Also, Happy MLK Day!

Kate and Andy at Home

I don't have much knowledge or appreciation for interior design, but Andy and Kate Spade's apartment featured by the art, illustration, and design powerhouse, The Selby, makes me wish I had an eye for it. Not surprisingly, Andy and Kate Spade (an extra 25% off all sales! You're welcome.) look so comfortable and effortless amid all of their lavish home styling. I love that they look like they actually use and live in their apartment. Certainly, the abundance of framed artwork also doesn't hurt...

Fancy Feet

Ok, here's my first post of something concerning Asia. It's kind of a fake-out, but if you really want to see the action, JJB has put up an impressive number of photos on Facebook. Tackling the enormity of my trip has been daunting and intimidating. I guess I'll just have to take it one step at a time. Literally.

These shoes are probably the most gratuitously trendy ones I've ever owned. I have a hard time justifying large sums of money spent on shoes, especially when they will only be worn for a few seasons. However, I've been told to "live a little" (by my fashion-week-participant friend, Helen), so I bought these babies in an underground stand in Seoul, Korea for around $26.

Cut-out Booties, I'm hoping that you with your snakeskin platform and heel and candy-red imitation of Louboutin class will be sticking around for a while. But even if not, for your price tag, I suppose I'm ok with your "the now rather than the forever" persona. Let's go dancing soon.

PS. I hope JJB does an update of her fabulously chic shoes from Asia. They are so sexy!

Suiting Up

"You're considered superficial and silly if you are interested in fashion, but I think you can be substantial and still be interested in frivolity."
Sofia Coppola

I'm sitting at my new desk, a little early for my new position that I officially start in about 45 minutes. I must confess, my two biggest concerns last night were "What do I wear" and "What's for lunch". Fashion and food, people. Have I ever been concerned with much else?

PS. Some of the biggest perks of this new job is that I'll be seeing a lot more of her, him, and Katie!

The Romantics

Ok, I know I've been home for almost 5 days now and still no updates of Asia. Apologies in advance because this still isn't it. I also apologize for the lack of phone calls to all of you since my return. For the scant few who have spoken with me, you know I currently sound like a serial killer who has a pack-a-day smoking problem. I got sick in Taiwan, got even sicker in Korea, and now I'm slowly recovering. My voice is mysterious, scratchy, and... phlegmy. Anyway, I promise that I will be slowly updating about my travels as we go along.

I did, however, come home to find this: the enchanting trailer for The Romantics.

Such an attractive ensemble cast and I'm looking forward to be wowed by all them. The storyline is laced with potential for great emotional depth and nuanced acting. And for even more eye candy, I also found that J.Crew has them modeling!

Don't the pictures just make you wish you were part of their group of friends? Stunning. Thank you, American cinema and style, for this lovely welcome home!

PS. Everyone wish her luck on her first days of Law School orientation! She will be so, so great.

Vintage Gold Details

Be still my fluttering heart.

A few of you may recall my arguably intense penchant for all things wedding from the summer of 2009 (Thanks, Mrs. Finley!). It's lessened considerably and I only regularly check my favorite wedding blog, Once Wed. There I stumbled on this wedding and fell in love with the dress which the bride purchased off the rack and then added these vintage gold details herself! I am such a fan of her vision and talent! Isn't this absolutely gorgeous? I also love weddings that use fun fabric held up by a clothesline as a backdrop for photos.

I am a girl with glasses!

I love every. single. thing. about this video.

Swoon. My "freedom summer" project is to become these women with a slight mix of Zooey Deschanel's character from 500 Days of Summer (in an aesthetic way, not a personality way). I'm seriously considering getting her bangs but I don't want them to turn out like this. Yeesh. Thoughts?

PS. Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Vintage Sartorialists

Ok, so we already know my adoration for anything the always impeccable Mr. Schuman does and his current project (ending today!) is a contest requesting readers' vintage photographs that "convey an inspirational sense of style". Not surprisingly, it does not disappoint. He welcomes short background info if the photograph has one and he posts one or two at a time. The entries are perfection because every subject so effortlessly chic and the ones with little blurbs are laden with profound respect, adoration, love, and the intrigue of times long gone... I can't wait to see the rest and the winner!

These three are some of my favorites (so far).

Hometown Pride

Well, this is technically the county, but I think I'm going to buy this bag. It's not that often I find my tiny New England, upper Appalachian, artsy mountain town on many maps. This store, Maptotes, is the brainchild of a fashion designer and a cartographer. How could their goods not be perfect? They have international megacities, mainstream Americana, and quaint little towns from all over the world. And they're all environmentally friendly to boot!

This little thing might also be another purchase for a new city-dweller nephew set to arrive this month...

Fashionable Friends

Here is some lust-worthy photography by the fashion genius Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist. Maybe it's because I was just snowed in by the Snowpocalypse, but I think that the winter is always a little bit warmer with great clothes and great friends. And this is so fortuitously perfect with one of my own fashionable (and witty, and hilarious, and so, so talented) friends starting her new blog!

PS. These two boys' picture is part of Schuman's work for Burberry's Art of the Trench Campaign. And since adulthood, I always knew my first big-time purchase would be a Burberry trench...
